Update on planet.freebsd.org
Following recent discussions, it seems that the CNAME is not going to happen because my arguments aren’t strong enough and I’m tired arguing and begging. I’ll keep maintaining bsdblogs and planet but I’ll stop advocating blogs to developers.
So, for the record, here are teh links (note that you can use either planet.xbsd.org or bsd-planet.droso.net):
- http://planet.xbsd.org (planet freebsd)
- http://planet.xbsd.org/complete (planet freebsd complete)
- http://planet.xbsd.org/soc2006 (planet freebsd soc 2006)
- http://bsdblogs.droso.org (blog hosting for committers)

It’s a pity. Why they are so afraid of some transparency? Sometimes if I am telling people about FreeBSD, they think of it like a secret society.

Oli: There has been a terrible experience with a freebsd.org irc server, so core is “skeptical about it not spiralling out of control” as well. I didn’t feel like arguing again (there already has been some lengthy email exchanges).
irvin: The complete version doesn’t filter !FreeBSD content.

We’ll probably see a new core team soon. Perhaps they are less afraid of changes that could benefit the project.
