Irish weather

Well, weather has been quite good for the past three weeks but it seems a special someone got angry when I left Ireland for France and decided rain should come again. And no, I’m not egocentric.

So James, one of my co-workers told me he was going to Rathmichael (IIRC) to play golf (pitch and putt) with a few friends yesterday afternoon (after work). I have been a couple times to Leopardstown driving range cause it’s as far as five minutes driving from my apartment but I haven’t really played golf in a while, so I figured it could be a good idea to go there and meet new people. We arrived a bit late, around 6:30pm I think while we were supposed to arrive at 6pm. We stopped after nine holes and the result was pretty lame: 17 over par. This is a Par 3 course. Do the math, that means the average is 5. Guess I should play a bit more often, or maybe just stop completely.

Anyway, not sure why I chose this title cause I’m talking about golf really (not about the weather), but it’s been raining during the whole time we were playing. Admittedly, that was a light rain, but still. And there was wind too. I think I got accustomed to rain and wind but I’ve been in Paris for the week-end and it was sunny like hell, with temperature over 25 degrees. In both case I’ve been wet, either because of sweat or rain.

PS: Yeah, ranting again, but I’m french and french people rant. A lot. Get over it.

FreeBSD Summer of Code 2007

So we got 25 slots assigned this year, which is more than what we had last year.

This year again, I’ve proposed our students to open a blog at blogs.freebsdish.org but it seems I’m being more successful this time.

All of our students’ blogs will appear on the main planet site, the complete version and the soc2007 one. Wish them luck!

Hopefully the last update on X.org 7.2 before the merge

So we’ve been working on the last details before the merge.

Dejan worked on a safer/simpler upgrade path, which results you can find if you browse x11@ archives. Kris pointed out a few issues which should be resolved within a few days.

We’ve had a couple volunteers to review the xorg big diff this week-end (pav, marcus, rafan, sajd, Erandir, I hope I didn’t forget anybody) so this went pretty fast. We’ll have a quick review again after the ports tree is frozen, right before the merge (which should hopefully happen some time next week).

I’ve submitted a new tarball to Kris to have a last experimental run, just to be sure nothing was broken in the last few days.

... met Victoria Beckham in Fitzsimons on friday night. Or maybe not, cause actually she didn’t look like a bitch. But there was defo something…

Went to La Cave for dinner yesterday. Great food, nice service. Now I wish I could remember what happened next.

Woohoo, free beer

Some time you go to bed thinking your day could have been better.

Well this is the case tonight, but at least I won a free pint at the (real) Bolands quizz in Stillorgan tonight! 19 good answers out of 20, woot!

Apache Pizza delivery guy

Ordered a few things at Apache Pizza yesterday and asked to be delivered. Delivery guy was on time, and for some unknown reason, managed to find my place, although there is no indication of the street name anywhere.

Anyway, I was expecting a typical angry delivery guy (non-local, usually some guy from eastern europe / asia or middle east) but instead, a regular irish man in his forties showed up, with a smile on his face. Dude, you made my day! :-)

Wii: Zelda Twilight Princess

I’m not going to do any review on the game (I’d be really late) cause there are already plenty of them on all gaming websites.

I finished the game yesterday night, I haven’t done everything but I’ve defeated Ganondorf, the last boss. Overall, I’ve found the game to be really easy (this is the first 3D Zelda game I’ve played seriously, I tried Ocarina of Time for a couple of minutes until I got bored of the N64 controller…) especially the last two dungeons (Palace of Twilight and Hyrule Castle) and bosses (Zant and Ganondorf). I spent around 55 hours to finish the game (I couldn’t say if it’s a long time or not cause it’s the first time I finish a Zelda game) but really the last two dungeons should have been much longer and harder.

Anyway, it’s a beautiful game, the Wii controllers are really a plus (especially the wiimote, I hated the slingshot with the N64 controller). Go get it if you haven’t bought it yet! I can’t wait for Phantom Hourglass on DS :-)

New blog

I figured it could be a good idea to make a new blog containing everything but technical stuff. So here it is.

Plus, it gives me a reason to use this domain name…
