Please somebody help me
Published May 28th, 2007 in FreeBSDThere’s bullshit in my head. Oh, and I’m aggressive too. Fortunately that was me and not des@ or phk@
I’m sorry to see this guy stopping using FreeBSD and I can’t but feel this is somehow my fault. Wait no, I don’t really care.
FWIW, it wasn’t meant to start a religion war, I just figured that if it’s his right to say crap, it’s mine to say it is.
Edit: As Geraud just mentioned it to me, “Beranger” already had to deal with des@
Just let him be a Linux-wannabe, it’s not your fault, it’s a “I-want-it-fast” guy, just let him be, you’re job is great.
Yep, I think entirely too much effort is being expended arguing with this guy. He’s quite capable of demonstrating how much of an idiot he is on his own, just read his other blog posts
Stable in terms of Linux can be a much bigger menace than this upgrade. Ignoring important instructions is more than lame.
That guy is like a child, “I just want my new Firefox in 3 minutes
! Gimmmmeee”, a good note was made there – “Why don’t you write your own OS - then maybe you’ll shut up”.
Just ignore him. Let him go. He is not worth to worry about. You are wasting your time with him.
Well, I’m sad to be aggressive, too.
But being aggressive is better than criticising gratuitously and doing it without not too much knowledge about FreeBSD.
Well, at least he found the right direction on his own (staying with linux) so he won’t be asking silly questions there around …
I note that the number of people who want to complain outnumbered the people who helped test along the way.
Right now FreeBSD is very frustrating, but I am hoping this is one of those cycles that seems to come and go. I recommend just stepping away from it for a few days.
And yes, in theory it would have been nice to do the Firefox upgrade in isolation, but without a half-dozen people who want to dedicate all their time to doing the work to branch the ports tree, it would have been completely infeasible.
But I, too, hope the “silly-season” ends soon. It is becoming very tiring.

You: “If there’s only one thing you should remember about my post, let it be that bashing is authorized, but please get a clue first.” ...
It’s your condescending attitude that puts people off you m8. Your approach to freebsd PR is gunho! I wish you’d at least once in a while listen to users (like me).
ps: I had a run in with you at IRC last week, which would explain my negative attitude towards you.
I use freebsd because i’m used to it and too old to switch, I browse the lists sometimes, I’ve never contributed, I’m a maths teacher – not a coder. i don’t have time to write docs. my complaint is this xorg upgrade was botched
you are very defensive about it on the blog, lists. the wiki article is bare, I didn’t get much “clue” from it. imho, this hasn’t really happened before….
@tabbot: I’m just being defensive, I’m not being condescending. I’m sorry if something went wrong with the upgrade, especially if I nobody’s been able to help you (I have no idea who you are but I don’t think I’ve been rude to anybody on IRC). I have been away from lists and IRC lately for personal reasons but I’m sure you can drop by anytime and ask for help again.
Anyway, you’re completely out of the subject, You’re complaining about the upgrade process, and he’s complaining about how things work in FreeBSD. While I can be blamed for the former, the latter is design.
Such upgrade hasn’t really happened before either.
Dear Florent,
A long time since i didn’t read on your blog – I’ve been quite busy, and I’ve been missing it. So let’s start with the obvious one: GREAT JOB ! With Xorg up to date, BSD gains a lot of killer-apps – like beryl or now “compiz fusion”. Since I wasn’t able at all to do only part of what you’ve done, I’m really greatful for your work.
Now about those ***** who don’t know what they ‘re talking about but can’t help sucking everyone: guys, you were SOOOO patient, I really admiring you. If one starts to insult me in that way, I would dream all day about murdering. This shows one important thing to me: within the BSD community, there are guys who spend part of their time replying even to those kind of people; and this is simply great. Hate them, ignore them: just like everyone. But once you talk to them, you become wise.
Go one. Keep the opensource world beeing a source of wisdom.

Frenchie joke: Il semblerait que la stupidité soit dans l’air du temps dans la monde francophone; j’ai raison parce que MOI, je le di: où avais-je entendu récemment ce genre de discours…
Thanks for the kind comment.
I hope compiz/beryl current maintainer is working on fusion too, there have been nice improvements lately.
