More info on FooKits

I committed the consolekit port some days ago and added an option to gdm to use it. It’s been working well so far, though you can’t do much right now (except ck-list-sessions). Some hours later, the patches have been integrated in the freedesktop repo.

Marcus also wrote a kqueue backend for latest version of PolicyKit, still to be tested. I don’t think it’s backwards compatible so it probably will have to wait a bit before it ends up in ports.

ConsoleKit and pals

Ok, so if you’ve been reading planet.gnome.org lately, you’ve read a couple of posts about PackageKit. I’m not going to write a lot about it cause reading Richard’s blog is the best source of information you’ll get.

PackageKit depends on recent versions of all the freedesktop hype stuff (PolicyKit, ConsoleKit, ...). While we have PolicyKit in FreeBSD ports, the version is a bit outdated. The latest one depends on inotify (IIRC) which I’ve disabled in a private git repo to make it compile properly and ConsoleKit. I’ll push these changes tomorrow. Marcus wrote the FreeBSD backend for ConsoleKit faster than I wrote the email saying I started to work on it. The repos are at http://git.xbsd.org/ if you feel like doing some FreeBSD porting stuff (hint: git-clone http://git.xbsd.org/freedesktop/blah.git, where blah is consolekit, policykit or packagekit).

Summer Bank Holiday weekend

Bit late to write about this but better late than never eh?

So I’ve been pretty much drunk all weekend but between two pints I managed to do some things, I think. As the weather was particularly pleasant on saturday (early in the day), I went to Killiney/Dalkey for a walk on the beach and an early lunch in Finnegan’s. I enjoyed free wireless connection on my new Nokia N770 and sent a message on MSN to a friend, just cause I could. Pretty lame eh? I don’t mind. Went to 92 for the night and met a couple of friends there. Pretty cool night, which ended in Goatstown at one my friends’ friend’s home, around 5am.

Been sleeping a bit on sunday, went for food shopping. Had a pizza then went to Bolands around 5pm. Met a friend there who was watching the Liverpool/Manchester game (was it Liverpool? can’t remember to be honest). We moved to Galloping Green around… I don’t know, maybe 8pm or something and stayed there until midnight. Going back to his gaf, we stopped for a pint at some pub whose name I forgot, somewhere near Dean’s Grange. I think we watched a Muey Thai related movie with his mates afterwards then I went back home walking. At some point, my nose decided it should bleed, so I’ve been walking 25 minutes with my hands covered in blood. Sweet. Back to bed.

Ok, it’s monday, I’ve been driking all weekend, I’m off the booze until next friday. Or maybe I’ll get one tonight, just to end the weekend properly. Such a bad idea… Met a some friends in Bolands and drank 5 pints in the end…. Great weekend, can’t wait for the next one!

On a different matter, I’ve seen Transformers and 300 lately, those are two really nice movies (if you haven’t seen them already). I’ve also had some really nice food. I’m 25 and I feel like I should cook a bit more often (if only to learn how to cook properly), so I prepared a tartiflette (which you can see here) and spaghetti alla carbonara. Should definitely eat such food more often…
