Next trips

As I said some time ago, I’ll be travelling Copenhagen, Denmark (30/09 → 03/10) then Dublin, Ireland (07/10 → 11/10).

Anton Berezin (tobez@) has planned something for tomorrow evening as he announced on bsd-dk mailing list. Not sure how much people will attend but I guess that will be just great :-)

Books

The books I’ve ordered from Amazon just arrived (at least, part of them).

I already said I’ve eagerly read the first book of H2G2. I then went to the book store to buy the second book, but unfortunately it was unavailable. I was unable to find it anywhere, so I decided to read “Dune: House Atreides” which I bought three years ago when I went to New York. I have been very lazy since then, not reading much (not talking about Computers books) and avoiding non-FR books. This one was the original text (english). I finished reading it while I was in Egypt, feeling bad because it’s part one of the Dune Prequel (House Atreides / House Harkonnen / House Corrino) and that I had nothing to read anymore.

So I finally looked at amazon.fr and fnac.com to find these books I missed (H2G2 book 2, Dune Prequel : books 2 and 3). Surprisingly, I found them all available (some of them within 4-9 days), and even ordered ChapterHouse Dune and Dune Legends.

I found “Dune: House Atreides” to be a very good book, I hope I’ll say the same about these.

I already found there was an official Dune website. It’s sad that they’re mixing Dune with non-Dune books there. “It’s all about the money”.

Back from holidays

As some of you might already know, I’ve spent last two weeks in Sharm El Sheikh. I came back yesterday evening. The weather is bad again, like it was when I left.

Diving was huge. I can’t find any word to describe it. My skin is burnt, but that’s not so bad. The food was the only thing I missed (actually, thinking it’s in the desert, that’s not that bad too).

I still have no answer from Google, still, I’m planning to go back to Ireland, just because it’s not really expensive and because I like Dublin :-)

Trip to Dublin

Friday evening I left Paris (Beauvais actually) airport on a Ryanair flight to come to Dublin (Ireland) to visit a friend of mine. That was the first time I came to Ireland. Yesterday we did the tour of Dublin (Pubs, Temple Bar, Pedestrian Center) and left to walk on the beach in Killiney near Bono’s and The Edge’s House. At the end of the day, we had some sort of alcohol meeting with some of his colleagues (all french guys, all very friendly) and ended at the Bondi Beach Bar (which is a quite nice bar/discotheque, there is sand on the floor and it’s quite hot, lots of girls only wearing bikinis). For the record, it’s in Stillorgan :-)

It was a sunny day, I couldn’t have wished to have a nicer weather (it’s actually quite bad in Paris these days). Now it’s raining (not too much). Plans were to go and play golf, we might change them if the weather doesn’t change itself.

Edit: The weather was quite bad all day long. No work and no golf makes Florent a dull boy…

I was planning to apply for a job at Google’s in Dublin but didn’t want to do it before actually having visited the city. Dublin is a very nice city, nothing to compare with Paris. I’d like to come and work/live here for some time.

HitchHiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Since H2G2 was announced to be out this wednesday, I decided last Saturday to buy Douglas Adams’ HitchHiker’s Guide to the Galaxy book, to read it before seeing the movie.

I read it in two days (I usually don’t read much books, but I can’t help stopping reading them until the end). It’s a very fun book, as people told me at school (that’s the holy bible there for some people).

So I went to the cinema to see the movie, that was a good surprise since I had some difficulties to imagine how such a book could be adapted into a movie. I think people who enjoyed the movie should read the book.

The day after I went to the bookstore to buy the last four book, and I found them all except the second one. That’s the most frustrating thing that could happen.

In the meantime, I’m reading House Atreides by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Migrating to Typo

Nanoblogger was a nice blog, but Typo is even better.

Yes it runs ruby (and God knows I hate ruby), yes I had difficulties with the version in the FreeBSD Ports Tree and even latest version in the trunk, but revision 434 went just fine.

I tried dashblog to publish a new post but it didn’t work (actually, the post was empty). It’s a pity because although it’s not as geeky as nanoblogger, it’s way handier.

Btw, I just found GeoURL while configuring Typo.

Final Grades

I just seen my final grades, and it seems my internship report and presentation were quite good (resp. 15.7 and 16). That means school is definitely over, which is good news :-) .

Google Maps

Talking with grog on IRC about Google Maps, he gave this very nice url (404, new one here) with special locations (Cities, FreeBSD Committers, FTP Servers, ...). I tried to find (again) where I was, and finally found it ! I’m here. While I was at it, I updated my coordinates in ports/xearth/files/freebsd.committers.markers.

Birthday

I’m now 23. Yeah, nothing to get excited about but I’m not writing a lot these days, so that’s a good opportunity.

Four days left before my final exam. I still need to finish my presentation and repeat what I’m supposed to present. Well, I’m quite happy seeing the end coming.

Back from USA !

It’s been 1 week now, but I’m back from my trip to USA.

I’ve bought a Canon Digital SLR camera just before, I wanted a nice camera for a long time and that was a good opportunity. I’ve seen lots of wonderful landscape and things. It was really cool and I’ll post a link of pictures I’ve taken as soon as they’ll be online.

While I was in travel mode, I spent last week end with my girlfriend in Brussel (Belgium) which was quite nice too, visiting a friend of mine. The weather was better than expected.

Now that I’m back in Paris, it’s raining again, everything goes normal.
